Culture Volunteer North Staffordshire Shines at Stoke Pride

Culture Volunteer North Staffordshire made a vibrant appearance at Stoke Pride on Saturday, 15th June. The team hosted an information stall where volunteers engaged the public, sharing details about the project and inviting new participants.

A highlight was the ‘drag eye’ activity, featuring elaborate eye makeup sessions by volunteer makeup artists from Newcastle College. These students had previously trained with local drag artist Candy Fierce, who offered a workshop on drag makeup techniques.

Adding to the excitement, a flash mob was organised in collaboration with Ghetto Fabulous dance company. A dancer from the company choreographed a routine taught to two groups of volunteers, including members of the public and students from Abbey Hill College in Meir. This intergenerational group, aged 17 to 82, performed the flash mob twice by the bandstand in Hanley Park, drawing large and appreciative crowds despite the weather. The performance even moved one spectator to tears.

In total, 33 volunteers participated, marking Culture Volunteer North Staffordshire’s largest event to date. Their stall attracted around 100 visitors, who left with information and merchandise, further spreading the word about the project’s impactful work.
