Men Who Make Things, a new project at B arts Studio

A new crafting initiative titled “Men Who Make Things” is set to launch at the B arts Studio in Stoke-on-Trent. The project, starting on 11th September 2024, offers a creative space specifically for men, especially those who have experienced mental health challenges. Funded by The Baring Foundation, this two-year programme will provide weekly sessions where participants can explore various creative and practical skills.

The sessions will be led by experienced artists and makers, Dan Higgs and Richard Redwin, alongside other guest facilitators. Participants will engage in a variety of crafting activities, including carpentry and large-scale creative projects. These could involve making bird feeders for a community project or creating carnival puppets.

This initiative aims to provide a supportive environment where men can develop new skills and connect with the wider creative community. The project also hopes to build a sense of creative ownership and foster personal growth among participants, offering opportunities to develop skills that could lead to volunteer or paid work in the cultural sector.

B arts, the host organisation, has been co-creating arts projects for nearly 40 years and is committed to promoting inclusivity in the arts. The sessions will take place at B arts’ studio on Hartshill Road, with plans to continue regularly following the initial drop-in event.
