The Miner Birds, a story of strength

The New Vic Theatre presents “The Miner Birds,” a play by Lisa Blower, inspired by the North Staffs Miners’ Wives Association Group and its Chair Rose Hunter.

“Ours is a unity that threats can never breach.”

Marking the 40th anniversary of the 1984 Miners’ Strike, the play celebrates the women’s ongoing activism. Featuring songs, storytelling, and poetry, it portrays their past, present, and future.

The 45-minute performance takes place in an outdoor space transformed to resemble the pit camp of Trentham Colliery.

We don’t need Government approval for anything we do.
We don’t need their permission to have a point of view.
We don’t need anyone to tell us what to think or say.
We’ve strength enough and wisdom of our own to go our own way.

The event, supported by Keele University’s Institute for Social Inclusion, runs Friday 26th & Saturday 27th July, and is free to attend.
